Course Description: This course emphasizes the concurrent development of oral communication, reading, and writing skills themes such as the media. Students will expand their ability to understand and speak French through various activities. They will also read short stories, articles, poems, and songs, write brief descriptions, letters, dialogues and invitations. The use of technology in this course encourages students to access a wide variety of information effectively and with confidence and employ it in a manner consistent with gospel values. It is the aim of the Grade 9 Core French Academic course to develop knowledge and skills to communicate effectively, understand French language and culture, express their ideas clearly, assist to analyze and appreciate what they read, and think logically. Evaluation of Student Achievement
All students will be assessed frequently and given multiple opportunities to practice and demonstrate their level of achievement of the course expectations.

Final Evaluation – 30% Practical and Written
30% of the grade will be based on a summative evaluation administered towards the end of the course. This summative evaluation does not need to be an exam. It may be one or a combination of an exam, a performance, an essay or other rich assessment task. EXAMS may include: Aural (Listening/Reading Comprehension), Written (Grammar), and an Oral Component.
Key Policies
Absence Policy: (School Policy) If a test/quiz (unit or chapter) is missed, it will be written the FIRST day back from being absent. The quiz policy is left to the discretion of the classroom teacher. If absent when the test was assigned and the absence was for a prolonged period of time, the test must be written the SECOND day back from being absent. The student is responsible for ALL WORK missed during his/her absence. |
Submission of Late Assignments: (Board Policy)
- Assignments are due at the beginning of class unless otherwise stated.
- If a student submits assignments late, the teacher:
- Must document or track late submissions. Teachers may use the Missed or Late Assignment Student Contract.
- Must consult with the student and determine a plan of action to correct this behavior. Teachers may use a variety of methods for dealing with late and missed assignments.
- May contact the student’s parent/guardian.
- May need to inform Administration or school success team.
- Teachers will use their professional judgment when extenuating circumstances arise.
- If a student fails to submit a major assignment on time, the student will be given a new due date at the teacher’s discretion. The teacher may use the same assignment or modify the original one. Failure to submit the original/alternate assignment on the second due date may result in a mark of zero.

Plagiarism: (Board
Policy) If it is determined that a student has plagiarized, the following will happen:
- The plagiarism will be reported to the school administration,
- The student will receive a mark of zero (0),
- The student will be provided an opportunity to resubmit the assignment,
- The first assignment will be recorded in Markbook© as a zero (0),
- The second assignment will also be recorded in Markbook© with the same weight,
- The parent/guardian will be notified and other consequences, including suspension, may be assigned.

Class Notes: * Students are completely responsible for any work missed due to class absence. * Extra help is available upon request. It is the student's responsibility to seek extra help if difficulties arise. * Assignments/homework must be completed diligently. * Notebooks will be evaluated periodically. |
Resources: (School Policy) At the beginning of each semester every student will be assigned a textbook with a specific number. The student is responsible for the textbook. At the end of the semester the student will return the textbook originally assigned, in the same good condition as it was received. If the book has been damaged, a penalty fee will be charged or the student may buy the book at the replacement cost. If the book has been lost, the replacement cost will be sought. If the textbook is not returned or replaced your mark will be withheld.
