Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic School Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father:
Thank You for our family who love us faithfully, for our friends who make us feel special and for us. We are strong, healthy and unique creations of God.
Help us every day as we learn more about your love. Encourage us to keep our environment clean, to preserve our trees, and to save our endangered species. Inspire us to believe in ourselves, to be the best that we can be. Teach us to work cooperatively with others, and comfort those in need. Guide us Lord, as we follow in Your footsteps at Our Lady of the Annunciation School.
Amen.

Picking Up/ Dropping Off
If you are having someone other than yourself pick up your child(ren), please send a note or call the school. The staff have been told not to release any student to someone other than a parent unless they have been previously notified. Also, please wait for your child outside the main office doors in order to save congestion in the school halls during dismissal. If your child is a primary student, they may be picked up at the office
We have designated a 'DROP OFF' zone at the front of the school. Please park in this area when dropping off/ picking up your children. Do not attempt to pick up students by the bus loading zone in the church parking lot.

Field Trips
Student Preparation and Ontario Health Card
Students are to be advised of the trip’s objectives and made aware of the teachers’ expectations as to behaviour, etc. before leaving school. It is understood that the principal may refuse participation in a field trip because of prior or anticipated general lack of discipline on the part of the student. In such case, the student’s parents shall be notified of the decision by the principal or teacher. No student shall be allowed to travel out of country without a valid proof of out-of-country health insurance and a Birth certificate or equivalent proof of Canadian Citizenship.
Consequences of Misconduct
In the case of serious student misconduct during a Field trip, the teacher in charge shall have the authority to dismiss the student and so inform the student’s parents who will be responsible to meet their son/daughter wherever the situation occurred.
The principal shall be consulted before the dismissal, where feasible, and a written report shall be prepared for submission to the Superintendent immediately upon return from the Field trip.
Volunteers
Volunteers may accompany students on field trips as supervisors and principal shall ensure that the school has an Application for School Volunteer on file for each volunteer participating in a Field trip. Principal must ensure that the volunteers receive guidelines on their responsibilities prior to the field trip. All school volunteers must provide an updated Police Clearance to the principal.
Colour Teams
At the beginning of each school year, every student and staff member within our school is placed on a Colour Team (Red, White, Green, Black, Blue or Yellow). Each colour team has students from JK through Grade 8; this is in an effort to create a greater sense of school community, provide students with opportunities to ‘get to know’ students in every grade, and instill a sense of teamwork.
In September of each year, teams come together to pick a team name, work together to develop a ‘team cheer’ and choose a ‘flag bearer’. We then have an assembly to announce the team names and hear the cheers!
When assemblies are held in the gym, students will be required to sit with their respective colour team. At the end of each assembly students in the ‘best behaved’ colour group will be awarded points for their team!
Points are awarded for a varied array of circumstances and behaviours, such as trying out for a team, participating in clubs, respectful behaviour, ‘excellent’ grades, completion of homework, showing the principal outstanding work, reading on the announcements, courteous and polite behaviour – and the list goes on and on!
Check out our monthly school newsletter to determine where your child’s colour team is in the standings! Each teacher calculates the points for their students every month and then we tally the totals to let students know their colour team placement.
At the end of the year, we hold an assembly to announce the winning colour team! Each team member is given an individual medal and the team is presented with the Annunciation CUP! This fun assembly is then followed up with a pizza party for the winning team.
Breakfast With the Principal
Our Lady of The Annunciation Catholic School is proud to have instituted a wonderful literacy program that we have called “Breakfast With the Principal”. During the first week of each month students are chosen by their teacher based on a reading criteria. This year we will also be looking at having writer of the month.
CHANNELS OF COMMUNICATION
In the Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board Policy Manual the policy regarding the Channels of Communication is under the Administration Section A:07. Basically it states the responsibilities of the parent, the teacher, the school council, the principal, the superintendent, the director and the trustees in the communication guidelines.
The Board shall recognize that a formal and proper line of communication encourages the immediate resolution of issues at the local level for the benefit of all involved.
If ever you have a concern, contact your child's teacher first! Usually, this helps to clear up missed/mixed messages. If you need more clarification you are welcome to call , or visit the principal. In short, if you like what we are doing for/with your child/children - tell others... if you don't - tell us.
Bus Behaviour /Rules
1) Always cross the road in front of the bus, only when the red lights are flashing and only when the bus driver tells you to walk. When crossing, keep enough distance between the bus and yourself.
2) Even though the lights are flashing, look both ways before crossing.
3) Always listen to the driver both inside and outside the bus.
4) Stay in your assigned seats at all times.
5) Always keep your hands and arms inside the bus.
6) No horseplay
7) Bus students must wait for buses in line, seated quietly in the gym.
The school is responsible for students travelling to and from school on the bus. We expect that a child' s behaviour on the bus is the same as in the classroom. Patrols are on the bus to ensure their safety. Co-operation with them is vital for the bus driver and all passengers.
Students are not allowed to take other buses home. The bus driver will not drop students off at alternate stops.
It is Board policy that all JK and SK students be met by an adult when dropped off. The child will be returned to the school if no adult is present.
Students travelling to school on a school bus must observe the safety rules and be courteous and obedient to the bus driver and patrols. If your child does not abide by the rules, his/her privilege of riding the school bus may be withdrawn. Please note the following in such situations:
a) the bus driver will send the principal a form stating the problem on the bus;
b) the principal will send a form home, describing the incident for parental signature;
c) should a problem keep re-occurring a, the student may be suspended from riding the bus.
If the infraction is of a serious nature suspension from bus privileges may be immediate. NOTE: IN THIS CASE, PARENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE TRANSPORTATION OF THE STUDENT FOR THE DURATION OF THE SUSPENSION.
