Welcome to
Mrs. Gervais'
Web Page
Word Study is complete for the year. Please have your child review their word rings over the summer months. I have also sent home a list of the next words they should work on.
Starfall booklets to go home every Friday.
Please allow your child to show off their new reading ability.
Poem Books
Students will receive a poem every Wednesday, please practise reading from their poem books nightly.
Word Bag: Your child will also bring home a zip-lock “Word Bag.” This bag contains flash cards for your child to practise nightly. It is important that your child learns to read these words. At first these flashcards will be theme related (e.g., colour words, number words, days of the week etc.) Later there will be sight words necessary for early reading and writing.
Gym Days:
We will have gym every Monday and Wednesday and alternate Fridays. As in past years, running shoes are to be worn by all students. No black soled running shoes please.
Library Days:
We will visit the library every Tuesday. Library books should be transported to and from school in the book bag provided to prevent damage from leaking lunch bags.
Lunches & Snacks:
We have a student in our class with a dairy allergy so please consider this before sending any treats. There are also life threatening nut allergies in the school. We ask that you not pack any food in your child’s lunch that contain nuts or nut products. There will be time provided for a snack in the morning. Please pack a nutritious snack for this time.
Homework:
Throughout the year a variety of reading material will be sent home to help your child with his/her reading. It is important that all duo-tangs and books sent home come back to school each day. We work in them daily. Homework will be sent home Monday through Thursday. As a rule I try not to send work home on weekends. We all lead very busy lives and need some family time on weekends. Please try to read every night with your child for at least 15 minutes whether or not he or she brings home the duo-tangs. Make it a part of bedtime routines. Start out reading to your child and before long your child will be reading to you!
Extra things parents can do at home if your child is so inclined:
* printing letters - using appropriate upper and lowercase letters
( John instead of JOHN)
- using appropriate spacing between words
- help your children form the letters correctly
* drill letter recognition (upper and lowercase as well as “a” and “g”
* printing numbers
* identifying numbers on a 100's chart randomly
* counting by 1's, 2's, 5's, and 10's to 100
If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact me at school or send a note with your child.
